Hair Transplant Heidelberg
Surgical techniques for hair transplantation
The basic requirement for hair transplantation: You should have enough natural hair with intact hair follicles. In addition, the size of the bald spots, hair growth direction, hairline and covering of a possible scar in the donor hair area should be considered individually for each patient.
The following methods are performed successfully at the Heidelberger clinic proaesthetic:
Hair transplantation using the FUT method
In follicular unit transplantation (FUT), an elongated oval piece of skin from the intact hair area at the back of the head is shaved and removed under local anaesthesia. Afterwards the donor site will be sutured.
Under the microscope the piece of skin is sliced into millimetre-wide follicular units (grafts). Approximately two to five hairs build a follicular unit. These micro grafts are inserted into tiny incisions (slits) in the bald area. In one session about 3000 follicular units can be transplanted.
Hair transplantation using the FUE method
In follicular unit extraction (FUE), follicular units will be removed with a needle from a relatively large shaved area at the back of the head. Those tiny scars don’t need to be sutured. The follicular units will be stored in a nutrient solution and then implanted into micro-fine incision.
This method is time-consuming. In one session up to 1.000 grafts can be transplanted.
Hair transplantation using the STRIP method
Strip extraction (STRIP) requires removal of a strip of skin with hair follicles from the back of the head. The donor area is locally anaesthetized and will be sutured afterwards. The incision is performed taking account of the natural skin lines.
As in FUT, the individual hair follicles will be prepared and transplanted in micro-thin cuts in the areas of hair loss. Per session 5000-7000 follicles can be transplanted.
